As JAGC's Director of Community and Workforce Development, Carlos leads many of our career exploration and entrepreneurship programs, creating opportunities for students to connect classroom learning to careers, industries, and experiences throughout Greater Cleveland. From JA Inspire and Job Shadow Site Visits to Career Chats, Career Exploration Fairs, and entrepreneurship programs, his work helps students discover interests, build connections, and explore what's possible after graduation.
Carlos's passion for this work comes from personal experience. As a student-athlete, he spent most of his time focused on sports and didn't fully explore career options until later in life. That experience drives his commitment to helping students gain exposure to careers, professionals, and opportunities earlier, so they can make more informed decisions about their future.
One of the most rewarding parts of his role is watching students' perspectives change. Carlos recalls meeting students who arrive at JA events convinced there is nothing there for them, only to leave energized after connecting with a professional or discovering a career path they had never considered.
"It gives students hope about their future, which truly is an important element of career exploration and setting goals."
For Carlos, career exploration is about more than choosing a job. It's about helping students understand their strengths, see opportunities throughout Northeast Ohio, and make informed decisions about their next steps.
